New Player's Guide to Living Forgotten Realms
To play/create a character in the Living Forgotten Realms, follow these steps:
1. If you are not already a member of the RPGA (Role Playing Gamers Association), you will need to sign up. Membership in the RPGA is free. Once you sign up you will be assigned a unique number. You will need this number to play in any RPGA Living Forgotten Realms (LFR) game. You can get a Membership Card anytime at SciFi Genre in Durham (they have them behind the counter). Or show up on any Thursday evening at SciFi Genre and we can help you get a Membership Card. Fill out the Membership Card, tear off the part that has your number on it (keep that, you will need it later) and fold the remaining card, tape it shut, put a stamp on it, and then mail it. For more information about the RPGA, click here.
2. To create a legal character in Living Forgotten Realms, you will need to follow the steps found in the RPGA Character Creation guide. This document contains everything that you, as a player, need to participate in the Living Forgotten Realms campaign. You will find a special appendix in this document for the Living Forgotten Realms campaign; simply read the general section and then flip to the rules for LFR. You can also find additional information about the Living Forgotten Realms campaign under the Documents link as well as The Realms link. And when creating your character, you will also need to specifiy what region your character is from. Our home region here at March Wardens is Aglarond, but you can have your character be from any of the 12 LFR regions.
3. You can find a find a Form-Fillable Character Record Sheet on the Campaign Documents page.
4. To keep track of your character's advancement in LFR, you will need to print out an Adventure Log and an Advancement Tracker sheet. Both of these documents can be found at the end of the RPGA Character Creation guide. You’ll use them to keep track of essential notes as your character adventures throughout the Living Forgotten Realms.
5. Now that you have created a character, you can play your character in any RPGA Living Forgotten Realms games. (Click here for a list of scenarios available to play.) To play with the March Wardens group, you will need to check the March Wardens gaming schedule for any available upcoming games. Click on the Schedule link on the menu line or click here. To actually see the details of the Gaming Schedule, you will first need to join the March Wardens Warhorn.org site. Click on the Register to Attend text and then enter all of your information on the next screen. Also, make sure you enter your RPGA number from step 1.
6. Now that you have registered on the March Wardens Warhorn.org website, enter your Login and Password, and then click on the Gaming Schedule to see the games. Click on the Sign Up link to add your name to any of the games.
7. You also need to sign up on the March Wardens Yahoo Group here. We use this Yahoo group for March Wardens game scheduling as well as for Living Forgotten Realms discussion and resources, so make sure you join the March Wardens group.
8. Now you are ready to play your new character at March Wardens! See you on Thursday...
